Maryland Mobility Scooters

The Maryland scooters we carry come from the world’s leading manufacturers and include the most stylish, durable, technologically advanced and highest performing mobility products available. You are welcome to stop by and test-drive one of our in-stock scooters at our Hanover, MD mobility equipment showroom to get a feel for how it handles.

You can choose from these 3 varieties when shopping for a mobility scooter. We offer both company portable scooters and full size to accommodate a variety of needs:

  • A 3-wheel mobility scooter offers a compact turning radius that is optimal for use inside where space is limited.
  • A 4-wheel mobility scooter has a larger footprint and is better to use on multiple types of terrain but, with a larger turning radius, is harder to use inside.
  • We have both 3 and 4-wheel compact portable mobility scooters that can be folded or disassembled for easy storage or transportation.

These superior products will allow you to enjoy an active, independent and rewarding lifestyle. Scooters are especially great for outdoors and often come in more color options than wheelchairs. Some of the scooter brands we carry include Golden Technologies, Pride Mobility and Drive Medical.

Here is a video demonstrating the features and capabilities of the Ventura 3-wheel scooter from Drive Medical.

Scooter vs. Power Wheelchair

A mobility scooter may or may not serve as an alternative to a power wheelchair. This will largely depend on your custom positioning needs and intended use. Consider these major differences between the two mobility devices to evaluate whether you can use a scooter in place of a wheelchair:

Operation and Controls

A power wheelchair is easy to operate regardless of your type of disability. If for any reason you can’t use a hand-operated joystick, there are other means of control that can be installed, such as breath-activated switches. A scooter is more limiting in this regard, as it requires a decent range of hand motion to control the front wheels through the handlebar.

Body and Foot Positioning

Unlike power wheelchairs that offer many different ways to customize seating and positioning, scooters are not designed to accommodate people with limited leg, body or arm function. Scooters are best for someone who can stand and walk, but may be limited in their motion range or strength.

Turning Radius

Power wheelchairs typically have a much tighter turning radius than mobility scooters. This means they can turn around in rather tight spaces, which is important for indoor use. A scooter may be difficult to maneuver indoors, especially if your home was not modified to meet your current accessibility and mobility needs.

Portable Scooters

Whether you are traveling on an airplane or just need a portable solution, we have the very best options available. Our portable scooters are light-weight and fully adjustable. They offer exceptional maneuverability and are extremely reliable. They can be driven directly onto an airplane and folded up for easy transport—you don’t need any special tools or technical knowledge! Portable scooters also come in 3-wheel and 4-wheel models and often even have handles attached to various parts for easy dismantling. We also have them available for rent in our Maryland wheelchair store.

Contact us or stop by our mobility equipment showroom if you need more information or are looking to purchase a mobility scooter.
